Managing the System

How can I manage my system?

There are four ways to manage the XRS model subsystem:

1. Via the LCD

LCD management is accessed by holding the Enter (ENT) button until it prompts for a password (~2 seconds). Using the UP/DOWN Arrows to enter the password and then press/hold the ENT button again.
Example: for the default password of 'admin' this would be entered in the following manner:

1. Hold the ENT button.

2. At the Verify Password prompt, use the DOWN button to select the character 'a'. Press ENT.

3. Use the DOWN button to select the 'd', press ENT. (repeat with all characters of the password).

4. Hold the ENT button down for the unit to verify the password

2. Via the serial port

The serial port uses a null modem cable, a VT100 terminal program (i.e.: HyperTerminal) and the following Terminal Settings:

* Baud Rate - 115,200

* Data Bits - 8

* Stop Bits - 1

* Flow Control - none

Once connected, if needed, press the X key will refresh/redraw the screen.

3. Via the Ethernet connection (LAN) - Web

This form of management needs the unit's IP address to operate. Please refer to the FAQ on obtaining your system's IP address for more information click here.

4. Via the Ethernet connection (LAN) - Telnet

This form of management needs the unit's IP address to operate. Use the following instructions and tips:

1. At the command prompt type "telnet 000.000.000.000" without the quotes, where 000.000.000.000 = the IP address of the unit

2. Or with HyperTerminal, select TCP/IP and enter in the IP address.

Once connected, if needed, press the X key will refresh/redraw the screen.

How to obtain your unit's IP address for remote configuration

There are several ways to obtain your IP address.

A) With a DHCP server available on the network:

The IP address can either be obtained by looking at the DHCP server for what address the SecurStor XRS unit 'pulled' or from the LCD panel.

The LCD panel displays the IP address which is currently set on the XRS. The IP address can be changed through the LCD of the unit using the instructions below:

1. Press & Hold the ENT (enter) button until it prompts for the password.

2. Using the UP/DOWN arrows, browse to each letter of your password (the default is admin (all lower case) unless it has been changed). Be sure to press ENT after each letter and then hold the ENT button after the password is completed on the screen.

3. Once the Main menu is accessed, it will show 'Quick Volume and RAID Setup'

4. From the 'Quick Volume and RAID Setup' scroll DOWN to 'EtherNet Configuration', press ENT. This will show whether DHCP is enabled or not. By default, DHCP is enabled. If it is not enabled and you want to enable it:

    4a. Press ENT at the 'DHCP Function Disabled'.

    4b. Arrow Up/DOWN to choose 'Enabled', press ENT.

    4c. At the Confirmation screen, press ENT to confirm.

If DHCP is enabled, from the 'DHCP Function Enabled' screen DOWN arrow once to 'Local IP Addr.'

5. This will show the Local IP Address. Use this IP address to access the administration GUI interface via web browser or telnet.

5. From the 'DHCP Function Enabled' Screen, you need to disable the DHCP in order to enter in a Static IP address, press ENT.

    5a. Arrow Up/DOWN to choose 'Disabled', press ENT.

    5b. At the Confirmation screen, press ENT to confirm.

6. From the 'DHCP Function Disabled' screen DOWN arrow once to 'Local IP Addr.', press ENT.

7. This will show the Local IP Address typically as 000.000.000.000. Press ENT to modify this.
