How can I check/set the IP address for my SecurStor 16i?

Read below for information on how to check and set the IP address on the SecurStor 16i.

a. The IP address can be obtained by checking the DHCP server for the IP address 'pulled' by the SecurStor 16i. You can find information on how to find the MAC address shown below.

b. The IP address can be found through the LCD of the unit using the below instructions:

--> i. Press & Hold the ENT (enter) button until it prompts for the password.

--> ii. Using the UP/DOWN arrows, browse to each letter of your password (the default is admin unless it has been changed). Be sure to press ENT after each letter and then hold the ENT button after the password is completed on the screen.

--> iii. Once the Main menu is accessed, it will show 'Quick Logical Drive Install...'

--> iv. Using the arrow keys scroll DOWN to 'View and Edit Configuration Params' (parameters), press ENT

--> v. Scroll DOWN to 'Communication Parameters', press ENT.

--> vi. Scroll DOWN to 'LAN IP Configuration', press ENT.

--> vii. This will show the MAC Address, press ENT.

--> viii. This will show the current IP address. If it has a (D), this means it is setup for DHCP. To Change the IP address, press ENT, then the down arrow, then ENT on "Setup IP address", press the ENT button once you see the current IP address, and then press and hold ENT once you see "Set/Change IP addr".
a. Static - Use the UP/DOWN and the ENT buttons to enter in the proper Static IP address, subnet, and gateway. Once finished, press and hold the ENT button.
b. DHCP - Using the UP/DOWN arrows, enter in "DHCP". Be sure to press ENT after each character and then hold the ENT button once done.

RAID controller firmware upgrade over serial

How do I upgrade the firmware on my SecurStor 16i RAID controller over a serial connection?

First, you must obtain the appropriate firmware file from technical support for your model.

Shutdown all RAID disk access from the attached host(s). The safest course of action is to shutdown the host machine entirely. It is highly recommended you use an alternative machine (not the host) to do the firmware update. If that is not possible, and the host must be used for the update, then you need to ensure no RAID disk access traffic occurs from the host to the SecurStor 16i unit -- the best method to ensure this is to physically disconnect the host SCSI or FC cable.

You can download the latest HyperTerminal from here or just use the one built-in to Windows.

The defaults port settings are: Baud Rate = 38400, Data Bits = 8, Parity = None, Stop Bits = 1, Interface = VT100.

1. Halt all I/O activity to the RAID controller

2. Connect the serial cable and null-modem adapter to the RAID chassis and the RS232 DB9 serial port on your host machine. On the SecurStor 16i RAID side, the port looks like a small audio port, and is labelled COM. The null modem adapter sits between that cable and your host cable or computer, as shown below.

Serial cable connection

3. Load terminal software to the correct settings and open a connection through the serial port.

4. Press Ctrl-L to refresh the screen. Enter the RAID password to gain access. The default password is admin if you have not changed it.

5. Arow down to System Functions, select it and then choose Controller Maintenance, select it then choose the top option for Download firmware.

6. Using HyperTerminal's serial interface, select Transfer, Send File, locate the firmware file and then begin transfer. A Zmodem file transfer session will begin, and will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.

7. After the firmware upgrade is finished, the SecurStor 16i RAID system will Program Flash for about 1-2 minutes, indicated by a percentage complete counter on the top left of the screen.

8. Once that is complete, you can press Escape and exit back to the Main Menu, then select System Functions, Reset Controller. This will reboot the RAID controller, which will take approximately 2 minutes.

9. When the controller finishes initalizing, the menu interface will appear again. You may now safely resume host RAID traffic.

If you have any questions please contact support before attempting to perform a firmware upgrade. To contact support, you can click here.

Change the admin password on the RAID controller

How to change the RAID controller password to access the admin interface

The default password is "admin" if you have not changed it.

Serial: Using the serial interface (How-to use serial interface), connect and select System Functions, Change Password.

Setting up a serial RS232 connection to the RAID controller

What is needed and how to setup a serial connection to the SecurStor 16i RAID controller:

Included with the SecurStor 16i RAID components was a null modem adapter and a DB9 to audio jack cable. The audio jack cable connects to COM 1 on the back of the SecurStor 16i RAID controller. The null modem adapter is placed in-between the audio jack cable and your host DB9 cable or interface, as shown below.

Serial Cable connection

Use any standard serial program, such as HyperTerminal built-in to Microsoft Windows. Open a connection with the following settings:

Baud rate: 38400, Stop Bits: 1, Data Bits: 8, Parity: None, Flow Control: None, Terminal Emulation: VT100.

The key combination Control-L will redraw the screen. Select VT100 mode from the menu and press enter to enter the RAID controller Main Menu.

Setting up a telnet network connection to the RAID controller

For information on how to access the unit via the network connection look here: Access network connection

1. Telnet to the IP address of the RAID controller, such as "telnet 192.168.252.25".

2. Enter the RAID controller password (the default password is admin if you have not changed it).

3. Press Control-L to refresh the screen. Select VT100 emulation and press enter.

Providing Server information

How do I provide Tech Support with the necessary server information?

EMD Support may request that you send information which will help us to analyze the current state of your SecurStor 16i system. If this is the case, please follow these instructions:

First connect via serial or telnet to the SecurStor 16i (information on how to found here: "Telnet" and here "Serial"), and then send a screenshot of each of the following pages:

1. view and edit Logical drives

2. view and edit logical Volumes (if applicable)

3. view and edit Host luns (all active channels/IDs - hit enter to show details)

4. view and edit Drives (2-3 pages)

5. view and edit channels (2-3 pages)

6. view and edit Peripheral devices - View Peripheral Device Status

7. view system Information

8. view and edit Event logs (all applicable pages)

Once you have the screenshots please compress the files and send to support in reply to your trouble ticket e-mail.
