Setting the IP address for first-time use

System comes pre-configured from Excel/Meridian Data with DHCP enabled. If you do not have a DHCP server then you will need to manually input an IP address.

To input an IP address, do the following:

1. Attach a keyboard and monitor to the NetStor MVD NAS header. Once attached, press Alt-F2 to switch to the login prompt. Login as 'root' and password 'testlab'.

2. Using netconfig, we will specify an IP address for the ETH0 connection. Make sure a network cable is plugged into a network card (eth0).

3. Enter 'netconfig' and hit enter. Select 'Yes' to change the options. Make sure the checkbox for DHCP is disabled, and use TAB to input your IP, subnet, and gateway.

4. Save changes and issue a 'shutdown -r now' command at the console to reboot the server.

Default user names and passwords and how to change them

The 'admin' user is for the web GUI, the 'root' user is for Secure Shell (SSH) and is the default 'NAS Administrator'.

The default login and password for the admin web GUI is 'admin' and 'hello'.

The default login and password for the root user is 'root' and 'testlab'.

It is recommended these passwords are changed for security reasons.

You can change the admin password via he 'Users' section of the web GUI interface.

You can change the root password by using Secure Shell (SSH) terminal, login as root, then issue the 'passwd' command.
