Factory Reset Controller to Default values

How do I reset my E4 to factory default settings?

1. Shutdown the E4 server (power it off)

2. On the outside rear of the chassis, locate the reset button which is on the NIC next to where the network cable plugs in.

3. Insert a heavy duty paper clip into the reset hole and hold it down.

4. Turn the E4 on and continue to hold the reset button in.

5. Once the Status LED begins blinking amber in 2 second intervals (about 15 seconds) release the button.

6. Once released let the LED blink 3 times and the press and hold the reset button again until the Status LED goes to solid amber (about 20 seconds).

7. Turn the E4 off, wait 10 seconds, and power the unit back on. The E4 is now reset to factory default settings.

The default name is AXISxxxxxx where x=the last 6 digits of the MAC address (printed on the back of the chassis, usually starts with 004...) By default the E4 will pickup an address from your DHCP server. If the E4 is unable to obtain an IP address from your DHCP server or you do not have a DHCP server, then you will need to A) Open a DOS prompt and type the command 'route add 192.36.253.1 PC IP ADDRESS'. For example, 'route add 192.36.253.1 192.168.252.215' if 192.168.252.215 is the IP address of the workstation. or B) connect a workstation to the same hub/switch as the E100 and set that workstation to an IP address of 192.36.253.1 and set the subnet to 255.255.255.0 while leaving the gateway entry blank.

Once this is done you can access the E4 via web browser by the IP address of 192.36.253.80. You can then login to the admin web interface using the default user name and password of root and pass to set a static IP address along with other settings.

Reset Administration Password

The default login name is root and the password is pass.

In the event you have lost your old password and caanot login, you will need to reset your controller to factory defaults. You can see how to do this by viewing the Factory reset controller to factory defaults section of the E4 FAQ.

Upgrading Firmware

How do I upgrade the firmware on my E4?

Open a command prompt and execute the following command 'FTP e4_ip_address' (FTP.EXE is included with Windows 98/2K/XP).

Login as the E4 administrator. The default user name is root and password is pass.

Change to binary transfer mode by typing 'bin' and hitting enter.

Issue the command 'put <software binary file> flash' where the software flash binary file is the full path and filename to the new E4 firmware image file, and the word flash is appended at the end of the statement.

When done, type 'quit' and hit enter. The E4 will reboot itself. Note: it may take up to 5 minutes for the E4 to finalize the firmware flash process.

Not Responding

What steps do I take if my E4 controller is not responding?

If you are unable to access your E4 server please perform the following steps:

1. Perform a factory reset on the controller. If this controller is still not responding as it should, proceed to step 2.

2. Power down the system and open the chassis, locating the E4 controller. It should have a power plug, a cable to the Network Daughtercard, and a SCSI cable attached.

3. Remove the SCSI cable(s) from the E4 controller. This same cable will be attached to your CD-ROM drives as well. At this point, we are only interested in removing the end of the cable that is attached to the E4 controller.

4. Power on the E4. If it continues to not respond properly, perform another factory default reset. Once this is done, and it is still not responding, contact support. If the E4 is now properly responding, proceed to step 5 o find out which device has failed.

5. Power down the system, locate the SCSI cable again. Re-attach the cable(s) to the E4 controller that were removed in step 3.

6. Locate the opposite end of the SCSI cable (after the CD-ROM drives) and determine if a physical terminator is installed. (this looks like a black square at the end of the cable) If there is one installed skip to step 8. If there is not a terminator installed, proceed to step 7.

7. The last CD-ROM drive on the SCSI chain should be configured for termination with the jumpers on the drive. Remove all CD-ROM drives from the SCSI cable except for the last (terminated) CD-ROM drive. Power on the system, if the E4 is now responding repeat the step, each time adding an additional device (always leaving the terminated CD-ROM drive attached) until you find the faulty CD-ROM drive.

8. Remove the SCSI cable from all but one CD-ROM drive, then power back on. Repeat this step, each time adding an additional CD-ROM drive to the SCSI cable, until you find the one that is causing the E4 to hang/not boot properly.

End of procedure - If you continue to have problems or need a replacement CD-ROM drive, contact support by using the 'contact support' link at the top of the main support page.

Microsoft Windows Compatibility

Is my E4 compatible with Windows 2000 or Windows XP environments?

The E4 controller was end of life before Windows 2000 was released; therefore the E4 was not designed to work within a Windows 2000 or Windows XP environment.

Issues may arrise when attempting to use the E4 in one of these environments. We recommend you contact our sales department @ 800-995-1014 for information on upgrading/replacing your E4 system with one which will work with thse and other environments.
