Factory Reset Controller to Default values
How do I reset my DataShare to factory default settings?
NOTE: This will not delete the volumes cached on your DataShare, however you will need to re-input your IP/network information and any security settings for your volumes.
1. Shutdown the DataShare server (power it off)
2. On the outside rear of the chassis, locate the NIC daughtercard where the network cable plugs in
3. Flip the DIP switches to the down position (opposite of what they are by default).
4. Power the DataShare on; wait for the LCD to display 'Default Jumper' (about 15 seconds).
5. Power the DataShare off; flip the DIP switches back to the up position (as they were originally).
6. The DataShare is now reset to factory defaults, clearing the admin passowrd and resetting all network and security settings.
7. Use the LCD keypad to reset the IP address if needed, or by default the DataShare will look for an address from a DHCP server.

1. Shutdown the DataShare server (power it off).
2. On the outside rear of the chassis, locate the NIC daughtercard where the network cable plugs in
3. Flip the #1 DIP switch to the on position, and leave #2 set to off.
4. Power the DataShare on; wait for the LCD to display 'Recovery Mode and Clear Password' (about 15 seconds).
5. Power the DataShare off; flip the #1 DIP switch back to off (normal operation mode).

What is the System Profile and why does it need to be backed up?
The System Profile contains such vital informations as:
1. User Account information (Domain and Local accounts, as well as quota settings).
2. NAS IP address/network configuration.
3. Domain/Workgroup Information.
4. Network Shares, Share permissions, and ACL configurations.
5. Tape backup information.
This information is not saved when the data on the volume is backed up, and cannot be backed up by any other method. Backing up the System Profile does not backup any of the data on the volume. For security reasons, the System Profile does NOT contain the Admin password or the Domain registration password.
For more information and procedures, please review this pdf document.

How do I upgrade the firmware on my DataShare?
1. Launch a web browser and type the URL in for your DataShare (the name or IP address of the server).
2. Authenticate as the 'admin' user account with the appropriate password.
3. Go to the Server Settings page, then select 'F/W Upgrade' for firmware upgrade.
4. Provide the location of the firmware binary file by hitting 'Browse', and hit 'Upgrade'. The DataShare will then begin the firmware upgrade and automatically reflash and reboot itself. Note: this may take up to 5 minutes.

Providing Server Reports
How do I provide Tech Support with my server information?
Technical Support may ask that you provide them with your server reports information and event logs. In that case, please follow these instructions:
1. Browse to the DataShare web interface, login as admin, and click the 'Server Settings' tab, then click the 'System Information' button at the bottom right of the page. Once this page loads, save the resulting file by going to 'File - Save as . HTML'.
2. Browse to the following URL (replace the word datashare withe the name or IP address of your server): http://datashare/SYS/log (note: this is case sensitive).
3. You should see a listing with the following files: dc_debug.txt, device.txt, mirror.txt, security.txt status.txt, sysinfo.txt, and system.txt. On each file, right click and choose 'Save Target As' the save the files on your workstation.
4. Please attach these files to your trouble ticket. If these files exceed 4MB combined, please archive them to a single file, and attach them to your trouble ticket e-mail. If you do not have a trouble ticket open, you can create one by using the 'contact support' link at the top of the support page.

Recovering from failed or degraded RAID
How do I recover from a RAID failure (degraded) on my DataShare?
1. Identify the failed hard drive with either a Sypport Engineer's assistance or by using 'Device Manager' in the DataShare's web interface, locate the degraded RAID array, click the hyperlink, and note the drive listed as 'Faulty'.
2. Power off the DataShare and remove the Fault Drive.
3. Replace the Fault Drive with a new disk drive, ensuring the IDE master/slave jumper is set correctly. Power the DataShare on.
It may take several minutes for the DataShare to rescan the RAID information, at which time you can proceed to the 'Device Manager' link in the web interface, locate the degraded RAID array, click the hyperlink, and select the 'Recover' option.
Select the new replacement hard drive from the drop-down list and choose the recover link. If you do not see the correct hard drive in the drop-down list, stop and contact support.
The DataShare will now begin to resynchronize the parity information of your degraded RAID set. You can monitor the status of this from 'Device Manager' by clicking on the rebuilding hyperlink.
