When you have finished reading about the new release, you can download it from the Excel/Meridian Data Technical Support Web site at www.Excel/Meridian Dataonline.com. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Contents ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Section 1: DiscZerver Firmware Section 2: EazyImage and EazyImage Builder Software Section 3: ZerverView Software Section 4: The Cyclone-Z Manual ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Section 1: DiscZerver Firmware ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Firmware Version: 7.02 Release Date: 05/14/2002 File Name: DZIMG702.BIN Products Affected: Cyclone-Z ------------------------------- Cyclone-Z Enhancements ------------------------------- These features have been added or enhanced since Version 6.00 Version 7.01 is the first official release by Excel/Meridian Data, Inc. Modifications to support full GPL compliance: As of this release, the DiscZerver is fully GPL compliant. That means that you are entitled to a copy of the source code for those components of the DiscZerver that are based on the GPL. Any inquiries regarding this can be addressed to our Web site at www.Excel/Meridian Dataonline.com. Added support for Video and Audio CDs: Please note that the video support is limited to drives that support the READ_CD command. This includes most modern drives. However, a few older drives will not be able to mount video CDs. Also note that the CD identification mechanism which allows DiscZerver to recognize that a CD has already been imaged will not function correctly for Audio or Video CDs. This simply means that the Zerver will allow repeated images of the same CD. Support transferring compressed images Between DiscZervers: DiscZerver will now allow the Admin to transfer compressed image files to and from the hard drive via FTP protocol. Modified the system page to include Volume Set database as well as more information about the CPU and temperature of the Zerver. -------------------------- Cyclone-Z Fixes -------------------------- These problems have been fixed since Version 6.00 Symptom: Some of the available hard drive space disappears as a result of using the Periodic Update feature to delete huge DVD-ROM images Resolution: Install version 6.03. All images are deleted correctly. Symptom: MAC address corruption occurs during the OEM branding process. Resolution: Install version 6.03. Contact Excel/Meridian Data to restore MAC address. Symptom: Unable to perform the "Reset to 10s" process with LCD keypad. Resolution: Install version 6.04. Symptom: Unable to delete images with volume names of 12 characters with V6.03. Resolution: Install version 6.04. Symptom: Very rarely unable to access files in some images. Images which contained files that resided exactly in the last 2k of an image could be inaccessible. Resolution: Install version 7.01. Symptom: Windows 2000 users could gain unauthorized access to CD-ROM volumes. Resolution: Install version 7.01 Symptom: If huge (larger than 2G) images existed on the hard drive after a reset to manufacturing defaults, the system would improperly configure itself. Specifically the cdroms volume set would disapear. Resolution: Install version 7.02 Symptom: Very rarely invalid volume entries could appear when the number of volumes was exactly 200 or 400. Resolution: Install version 7.02 Symptom: In very rare cases heavy access to the IDE bus could cause the Zerver to lock up. Resolution: Install version 7.02 Symptom: the VirtualCD share is not accessable. Resolution: Install Version 7.02 ---------------------------- Cyclone-Z Tech Tips ---------------------------- If NCP/IPX packet burst is set to "off" on the server, it must be set to "off" on all clients. And, if NCP/IPX packet burst is set to "on" on the server, it must be set to "on" on all clients. When installing a Cyclone-Z into NDS, a complete list of volume objects is not displayed. All volume objects are inserted into the same context as the DiscZerver. When switching the current media character set from Asian to European, it is necessary to reboot the DiscZerver. Novell's Border Manager prevents the DiscZerver from being displayed in an Internet Browser. At this time, the workaround is to disable Border Manager when the DiscZerver needs to be accessed via an HTTP connection. You can now copy a compressed image from a DiscZerver to another DiscZerver using FTP. -------------------------------- Cyclone-Z System Limits -------------------------------- Mounted volumes or shares: Cyclone-Z can mount or share up to 512 CD-ROM discs or CD images at one time. Defined users: Up to 1000 unique users can be created on Cyclone-Z. Defined groups: Up to 125 unique groups can be created on Cyclone-Z. Volume database records: Up to 599 volume database records can exist on DiscZerver. Image Size: Images of DVD-ROMs up to 17.8 Gigabytes can be created on the Cyclone-Z. --------------------- Supported CD-R Drives --------------------- Cyclone-Z supports MMC3-compliant CD-R Drives and the drives listed below: Manufacturer Model Max Speed -------------------------------------------- HP Sure Store 6020 2X Panasonic CW-7502-B 4X Plextor PX-R412C 4X Plextor PX-R820 8X Ricoh RW7040S 4X Ricoh RW7060S 4X Ricoh MP7040S 4X Ricoh MP7060S 6X Smart & Friendly CD-R 8020 8X Teac CD-R58S 8X Teac CD-R56S 6X Yamaha CRW6416 6X Yamaha CRW4260 4X Yamaha CRW4416 4X Yamaha CDR100 4X Yamaha CDR102 2X Yamaha CDR400 4X --------------------------------------------- Setting Language Preferences for Web browsers --------------------------------------------- Both Netscape and Microsoft distribute localized Web browsers. A localized Web browser sets the default language preference to the local language. If you are using a localized Web browser, there is no need to configure the browser with the settings described below. DiscZerver Cyclone supports the default language settings of the Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers. The Cyclone-Z Web browser interface, version 6.00, has been localized to ten languages, including English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese (both simplified and traditional), and Korean. Web browsers default to the user's language preference setting. If a user's browser is set for any of the localized languages, the DiscZerver Cyclone interface will display in that language. The instructions for configuring the two most popular Web browsers to another language are described below. Netscape's Communicator and Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browsers can be configured to display a Web site that has been localized to a specific language. The instructions for configuring each Web browser are as follows: For Netscape Communicator: 1. From the Edit menu, select the Preferences option. 2.
